Staff Highlights

David Brennan

Meet David Brennan, MLS, Harrell HSL’s Collection Development and Electronic Resources Management Librarian.  David has been with the library since July 2010 applying extensive experience in collection management and library systems administration, including St. Francis Medical Center and the Clifford E. Barbour Library at the Pittsburgh Theological Seminary. Of course, being a Pittsburgh native, he is a proud member of the Steeler Nation.

In the 18 months David has been with us, he has contributed greatly to improving processes that allow our users to find information more quickly and easily through library systems.  For example, he created a handy e-book search tool so that library users can quickly find e-books available in health sciences subjects.  That search tool is available here: http://med.psu.edu/web/library/services/collectionaccess/ebooks  David works with the vendors of information sources such as MDConsult, Natural Medicines Comprehensive Database, and Dynamed to ensure that our faculty, staff, and students have seamless access to valuable clinical information.  Currently, he is working on a project to merge our journals and databases lists with that of the University Libraries so that Penn State Hershey users can have effortless access to all electronic journals across the University through a single portal. He also serves the institution as the non-scientific member of the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) and has created a literature search guide for other members and researchers to use to meet the information requirements of the Animal Welfare Act: http://harrell.library.psu.edu/iacuc.

David’s contributions are seen every time people use our Journals A-Z list to find a journal, consult health sciences e-books available through the library catalog, or get a quick solution to an electronic journal access problem.  HHSL staff alike have benefited from his IT skills and his problem-solving abilities.
