The Official Newsletter of the George T. Harrell Health Sciences Library, Vol. 3 (3) July, 2012

Welcome New Library Faculty, Robyn Reed

In June, Robyn Reed, MA, MLIS, joined the Harrell HSL faculty as Biomedical Informatics and Emerging Technologies Librarian.  Prior to earning her Master of Library and Information Science degree from the University of Pittsburgh in 2010, she had a career in biomedical research.  A Master’s degree in Pharmacology and Toxicology from SUNY Buffalo provided the foundation for performing research activities in biochemistry and drug discovery.  Following the completion of the MLIS degree, Robyn was selected to participate in a National Library of Medicine-sponsored Biomedical Informatics and Health Sciences Library traineeship at the University of Pittsburgh and now holds a graduate level certificate in biomedical informatics.

Through the Biomedical Informatics and Emerging Technologies position, Robyn will support research initiatives in a variety of ways in both the health sciences and clinical areas.  She is serving as the liaison to basic science departments including Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, Cellular and Molecular Physiology, Microbiology and Immunology as well as Pharmacology.  It is anticipated that Robyn will be working with students and researchers to help meet their unique information needs, such as conducting training in molecular biology resources and working with data management challenges.  Additionally she will be functioning in various informatics capacities throughout HMC as translational research and medicine continue to grow.  Robyn is looking forward to meeting researchers at Penn State Hershey and learning about their ongoing research activities.
